BarterWATER for Sustainability

BarterWATER mission aims to establish water as the basis of a natuure-centric circular-economy for propagating a sustainable way to the future.

Water is the basis of local-sustainable Ecology, Let it be the basis of local-sustainable Economy.

The mission is to create an innovative and scalable model to provide safe drinking water to the communities, followed by engaging them into activities related to sustainable development and to combat climate-crisis, in exchange of Water (Rainbow) Credits.

Alligned with the vision of UN’s decade for action agenda (2018-28), ‘Water For Sustainable Development”, BarterWATER is one of the unique program to prevail sustainablity by community engagement and transparancy by emerging technologies.

Our approach

This mission aligns with the United Nations Decade for Action Agenda (2018-2028) and supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2030). By integrating clean water access with an eco-conscious economic system, the initiative empowers rural communities while ensuring environmental sustainability.

The BarterWATER initiative is based on an innovative incentive system that rewards efforts in community action with Rainbow Credits. These credits can be redeemed for clean drinking water from OAS Spring units or exchanged for essential nature-based goods and services, fostering a culture of responsible water use at the grassroots level.
In addition to the innovative ‘barter-for-impact’ model, the solution is deploying pioneering research from IIT-Kharagpur to tackle Arsenic contamination in the water sources using commonly found laterite mineral for binding and safe disposal of Arsenic.
Arsenic has had a devastating health impact on communities across at least eight States in North India, where communities lack affordable and easy-to-deploy solutions and suffer from high cancer rates.
With technological innovation, strong institutional support, and active community participation, the BarterWATER initiative is paving the way for a water-secure and environmentally responsible future, proving that sustainable solutions can be both impactful and scalable.

We are happy to support Water Bank Foundation's BarterWATER mission as the technologies emerging from the Labs of IIT Kharagpur is not only creating grassroot level impact, to provide Arsenic-free drinking water, but is also becoming the basis for a nature-based circular-0economy

Ratan Agarwal President, WHEELS Global Foundation

Its commendable that WaterBANK's efforts are focused to provide clean and safe drinking water in Arsenic affected areas, and encourage community participation in lieu of drinking water credits. I am optimistic that this will bring out impactful outcomes in terms of overall standard of living.
